Dec 27, 2021

GUIDANCE

What is a pool plan?

It is common for operators to include a diagram of the swimming pool in their normal operating procedures for use in training to help staff identify and remember the location of key information.

What should you include on a pool plan?

You may consider including the following information on your pool plan:

  • Location of the pool in relation to the rest of the building.
  • Pool dimensions and depths.
  • Location of admission policy and pool rule signage.
  • Location of key pool features.
  • Location of the allocated lifeguard positions.
  • Location of entrances and exits from poolside.
  • Evacuation routes.
  • Location of underwater or overhead cameras.
  • Location of control panels or emergency shut-off panels.
  • Location of the plant room and controls.
  • Location of alarms.
  • Location of artificial pool lights and controls.
  • Location of mirrors used for supervision.
  • Location of CCTV monitors.
  • Location of signage.
  • Location of blinds.
  • Location of any pool furniture.
  • Location and type of rescue equipment available (including spinal board).
  • Location of the first aid room, equipment, and resuscitation equipment.
  • Location of sharps box, body fluid kit, burns kit, heating or cooling kit, eyewash station.

When should you update your pool plan?

Essentially, if anything changes, including the guidance around the content and need to include a pool plan within your procedures.
