Course aim
To produce candidates who can competently assess, operate, and inspect waterslides and prevent avoidable claims and accidents.

Agenda
A one-day, in-house training course at a waterslide venue.Â
Module 1: Introduction
Introducing key waterslide features.
Module 2: Operator responsibilities
Operating and maintaining your waterslide.
Module 3: Waterslide inspection
Carry out checks and tests on a waterslide.
Module 4: Risk assessment
Identifying hazards and preventative measures.

Prerequisites
Candidates will already be able to put together a generic pool risk assessment, have a fundamental-level understanding of health and safety terminology, and have experience working in a leisure environment.
Typical candidate backgrounds may include:Â
- Pool technician/maintenance
- Duty/operations/general manager
- Health and safety officer/manager

Outcomes
1. Identify and apply key requirements of EN 1069 Parts 1 and 2 to an index waterslide
In-class multiple-choice assessment.
2. Produce a suitable and sufficient waterslide inspection report
In-class practical inspection activity of a waterslide.
3. Produce a suitable and sufficient waterslide risk assessment
Post-course assignment.

Venue requirements
Host venues require:Â
- Sole and unrestricted use of at least one waterslide for 1.5 hours during the course.Â
- A training room suitable for up to 12 candidates
- Access to a projector/screen to display the course presentation.Â
- Ability to provide lunch and refreshments.Â

Enrolment
Host venues are responsible for the costs associated with the course and candidate enrolments. Hosts may set and charge a fee to external candidates they invite or who apply to join the course.
Course enquiries received by the WIRH will be forwarded the details of the key contact at each venue hosting this course in the next 12 months.
The host venue pays a fee to cover tutor expenses, course manuals, equipment hire, classroom resources, assessment marking/feedback, and certification. This fee is nonrefundable if the course is not cancelled 28 days before the booked start date.Â

About the trainer
Dan Jacklin is the author and tutor of this training course. Dan has 15 years’ experience as a course designer/tutor and 7 years’ experience as a waterslide accident investigator for claimants and defendants in the UK, Spain, Hungary, Turkey, and Guernsey. Through this work, he has developed deep expertise in waterslide safety and using the EN 1069:2017 Part 1 and 2 standards to prevent unnecessary claims and accidents.
Dan is passionate about promoting waterslides, which bring enjoyment to so many. This passion led Dan to create the UK’s first dedicated training course for waterslide operators.
